Aeolian music

Since 2018 I have explored using the wind to play guitars and self-made string instruments. This is both an improvised music practice, an interactive sound sculpture & a generator of unpredictable harmonic material that I have used in composed works.
This practice is documented in the work Interactive Aeolian Harp: Whaler’s Tunnel, which is shared and discussed in Tone List’s NotNotMusic podcast.

Stuart Orchard performing with an aeolian (wind-powered) guitar on a sand dune. A trail of sand blows behind him, and he is framed by a clear blue sky.
